perder 200 años

la verdad no esta donde te dicen,

está donde únicamente tú sospechas

y luego compruebas.

TROPEROS (T). maceo, gomez

CHUPATINTAS. marti

CHUPATINTATROPEROS (CT). ignacio, mella, fidel, raul, che, camilo

Silvio Rodriguez, P E D O F i L i A – Y – compromisos políticos

P  E  D  O  F  i  L  i  A  –  Y  –  compromisos políticos

rivals

to be a very useful propaganda icon 4 communism since 1959: as he died very young, only 39y/o (in 1967), was a formidable tool to be transformed in a saint.

alive, he was not a José Martí, a Maceo, a Gomez, a Fidel Castro but a good soldier who failed to pair those who really moved their people to new achiavable goals.

was not Cuban and fought for Cubans’ revolution which has been very useful to construct the icon, but failed (as failed the rest of the leaders) to leave even in Cuba a long term revolution of its Education and Economy: so they are perishable Mickey Mouse revolutions (You will see)

Che: an instrument, even more useful dead than when alive. A powerful one to contribute to changes driven by communism in the world. An instrument that goes on, while others failed for ever: this has been his only achievement, to always go on in the mind of those that know nothing about Che or Communism (fans are the same always: a lot of passion, a lot of wind, a lot of more of the same, a lack of doing what really is important for their lives to improve, an avoidence like when one is doing drugs; a dream, very useful to continue being a useless person).

…and all these are positive achievements, anything that is necessary is possitive, too many people need Che, hopefuly they are fewer with the time, he’s got a rival (steve jobs)

revolucion

No podrán, no podrán,

Nosotros (Norberto y yo):

repression

started with a cage containing five monkeys. Inside the cage, they hung a banana on a string with a set of stairs placed under it. Before long, a monkey went to the stairs and started to climb towards the banana. As soon as he started up the stairs, the psychologists sprayed all of the other monkeys with ice cold water. After a while, another monkey made an attempt to obtain the banana. As soon as his foot touched the stairs, all of the other monkeys were sprayed with ice cold water. It wasn’t long before all of the other monkeys would physically prevent any monkey from climbing the stairs.
Now, the psychologists shut off the cold water, removed one monkey from the cage and replaced it with a new one. The new monkey saw the banana and started to climb the stairs. To his surprise and horror, all of the other monkeys attacked him. After another attempt and attack, he discovered that if he tried to climb the stairs, he would be assaulted. Next they removed another of the original five monkeys and replaced it with a new one. The newcomer went to the stairs and was attacked. The previous newcomer took part in the punishment with enthusiasm! Likewise, they replaced a third original monkey with a new one, then a fourth, then the fifth. Every time the newest monkey tried to climb the stairs, he was attacked. The monkeys had no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs or why they were beating any monkey that tried. After replacing all the original monkeys, none of the remaining monkeys had ever been sprayed with cold water. Nevertheless, no monkey ever again approached the stairs to try for the banana. Why not? Because as far as they know that’s the way it’s always been around here.

60/60

LEGACY

THERE IS NOT LEGACY without honesty.

There is not honesty without laws following reality, without justicy for all, the rules to live honestly which is the requisite for José Martí’s dream for humanity.

quien fue, que escribió josé julián martí pérez, que quería para cuba y el mundo;

quienes son los esbirros que tanto defiendes, y de los que eres fiel y docil criatura: no puedes ser de otro modo;

los atisbos de libertad en tus escritos (incluidas tus canciones) es con lo que algunos se han quedado, son la luz bajo ese everest de escombros de carne con madera en el que te debates inteligible hasta para ti mismo. la oscuridad te ahoga y te conviertes en subdito de Martinez Campo y Weyler, mientras hablas estar entre las filas de los mambises con Martí, Agramonte, Maceo y Gomez. así de inefable es tu discurso;

I come from a communist country and though my parents got me out of there when I was four I heard enough stories to be very grateful that they got me out of there. I have a lot of family still there who I keep in touch with and again thank goodness I’m here and not there. Unless you you want to be stripped of all your freedoms and have the government control your life you wouldn’t like it. Unless you want no choices on laws passed and voting rights you wouldn’t like it. Unless you want to never advance in your field, run your own business and travel where ever you want you wouldn’t like it. Sure free medical but how free is it when you have to wait a year for an MRI? People who haven’t lived it will never understand it. Sure if the communists running the country was a great man looking out for his country then he wouldn’t be afraid of free elections so since people have no say in who’s running it they do what they want

The most draining aspect of medical training, it turns out, is not long hours, brash colleagues or steep learning curves — it’s the feeling that you’re often unable to be there with and for your patients in the way you want, in the way you’d always imagined you would be

Surely patients want to be seen and treated in a timely manner, but when we sacrifice empathy for efficiency we fuel what lays at the core of patient — and physician — discontent with modern medicine. We hide behind buzzwords like “patient-centeredness” and “shared decision-making” without being able to offer the time that gives these terms true weight. Ultimately, reconciling this tension may mean reconceptualizing “efficiency” to include the tremendous value that exists in having more time to spend with our patients.

When I think back to that morning with my patient, and many mornings like it, terms like efficiency and productivity seem to lose their meaning. I think of the countless opportunities for compassion I squander every day in pursuit of something far less meaningful to patient and doctor. And I think, next time, I’ll sit.

BILL

We had a patient at this time and his name was “Bill.” Well, “Bill” came to us, he would not even talk. He would not eat because he thought food was poisoned. The man was about 90 pounds. Can you imagine thinking your food was poisoned? How scary that must be. He would go into the bathroom and spit until he had no saliva because he thought we were trying to kill him. He would hold his bladder because he feared going to the bathroom. He had a look of fear in his eyes, he was scared of everyone and everything. Then we had to force him to take medications. In his mind, he was at a place that was trying to kill him, poison his food and kill him. He then is told he has to take medication that makes him sick, tired, and shaky. Then he is told he has to take it and is locked up if he refuses. Imagine that as your reality for a moment. He would not even sleep. It was torture I am sure. It was heartbreaking. He had no family to come visit, he would never come to groups, and he would never participate. No one really cared. We got his money every month, we wrote a note on him every day and got paid. He had a place to stay. His social worker figured he was ok and would work on a new placement for him. But treatment? How was he getting any treatment? Staff did not care, they got through their shift. I did not care anymore, this was the blow that was ending it all for me. It is official, this is a fraud and I cannot help anyone or anything. I give up.

Then the staff meeting I described above in which I let loose on everyone. I blew up and it all came out in an angry speech in front of all staff at the meeting.

As I sat in my office with my heart pounding and my heart racing and emotions all over the place. I hear a knock on the door. I say “come in.”

It was Lonny. Lonny was the business manager of the place. He was the one that collected the money and paid the bills. He was a kind and direct man. I always wondered how he could take money from these people who had nothing. He did it every day, which was his job. He was not a bad man, he was a good man. He had a difficult job. He did not speak often, but when he did, it was important and meaningful.

So my thought as he walks in is “Oh my god he is going to give me a lecture about this, but I do not care I am quitting anyways.”

He said, “Can I sit down.”

I said “sure.”

He said to me, “I was thinking about what you said. What have we done for Bill? What are we even doing? And I think I have an answer for you.”

I said, “Ok.” I was thinking, “I cannot wait to hear this one.”

He said, “Well maybe if we do well, Bill will have a place that he can go back to some time in his life and say, you know the world is a scary place, but there is a place that I was at for 90 days that was not so scary. People were nice to me, they took care of me and listened to me. So maybe the whole world is not so bad. Maybe we can plant seeds in his mind that he will use later.”

I said “How do we get to that, he will not even talk. He is scared and no one cares.”

He responded. “Start by saying hi every day. Smile at him. Regardless of his response. Let’s just start with hello.”

This conversation changed my life. I am rarely speechless, but this was one of those times. My mind went blank. It was all still. All the emotions were gone and my mind was blank. It was like once again in my life when I could not take anymore. I was delivered a message to continue and to go on. I was given a spark of hope and a different way of thinking from a most unlikely source.

Every moment in life can teach us lessons, and every person is a possible teacher. If we are not fully present in each moment, we miss out on the lesson. IF we have preconceived notions about others, we miss the lesson. If we are elsewhere in our mind, we miss the moment. If we miss the moment, we mess with the future. Every moment builds on the next, which is how the future is built. Moment after moment.

I never thought this man had this life changing lesson for me. When I was broke, defeated, and had given up on my life’s passion. The man who pulled me up was Lonny.

I started to listen to this advice. I said hi. Nothing at first. For a couple weeks. Hi how are you doing? Then one day, it happened. “Bill” looked up at me, and said hi. Then he smiled. Then he would say he is “doing fine.”

I watched him start to talk to other people as well. Others would talk to him and be good to him. Now the same staff that were zombies were still being zombies. But my mind was not focused on them anymore. It was focused on the 2 or 3 staff that were trying every day to make a difference in each moment that they had. These were the people that I was not noticing before, because my inner turmoil did not want to see it. Now I saw it.

One staff. Her name was “Rochelle,” would give everything she had to each patient and in each moment. If they wanted to walk, she would go for a walk, they were the most important people to her in that moment. She also heard all the negativity, however it did not disturb her. I was in awe of how she did this. Maybe it did bother her, but it did not seem like it. For each patient, the moment they were with her, they were the most important person in the world. How had I not noticed this before?

“Bill” eventually got better. I mean not completely. He shaved his head, he was smiling and talking to us about his life. He actually was eating. He would still eat as fast as possible and cover it up, but he would eat. He was no longer afraid of the bathroom. It was amazing.

I go back to Lonny’s words often. Planting seeds. Sometimes we just need to do the best we can do and let go of the results. Sometimes we won’t see the results. Sometimes the results we see for other people will not be what we want for the other person, but it is not about us. It is about them. It may be that they got the result that they wanted. We cannot define another person’s success by our expectations and standards. What is their goal, and how can we help them. Do they even want help? We are like the passenger with a road map that points out things. They are the driver, it is their journey. Sometimes all we can do is make someone feel safe, or plant seeds. Or make them feel like the most important person in the world for that moment.

I thought for a long time that I planted seeds in “Bill.” Maybe I did. I let go of the results because I did the best I could.

What I know happened is that “Bill” planted seeds in me. So did Lonny. Thank you Lonny.

I thought I was the gardener, however I was the flower.

Or maybe, I was both. Maybe we all are both at all time.

Psychological symptoms of stress can be hard to identify. Unless the person tells what they are experiencing, we do not have access to the inner workings of someone else’s mind but eventual clues on behavior/non-verbal language.

Behaviours very frequently related to stress are:
1. Sleeping difficulties

Sufferers of stress are unable to switch off. Sleep shortage and insomnia are often tell-tale signs of stress.
2. Non-compliance with hours and deadlines.

Timekeeping is one of the first things to suffer when an individual becomes stressed. They may take too many tasks on; try to avoid tasks and thus leave them until the last minute or they may be so overcome with worry/anxiety that they become forgetful. In order to remedy the situation, they must first identify why their punctuality is so poor. Stressed individuals tend to regularly miss work. They may be trying to avoid a difficult situation or they may be suffering the consequences of one of their coping mechanisms e.g. alcohol or other addictions.
Stressed employees are generally unhappy in their work situation. Sadly, many workplaces have not put the necessary training and procedures in place which would allow the employee to discuss their experience with their manager so that they may work together to find a solution. Rather than raise the issue, many stressed employees will choose to seek employment elsewhere.
3. Withdrawal

Withdrawal is a common behavioural symptom of stress. The individual’s self-esteem and confidence may have taken a hit and as a consequence, they may no longer feel capable of coping with social situations. In order to protect their fragile confidence, they may choose to avoid all such situations.
4. Exhaustion

If we are to maximise our energy, one of the most important things for us to do is to balance our physical energy. There will be times when we are required to work at our maximum output for sustained periods. In order to do this we must implement periods of deep rest which enables both our body and mind to recover. Failure to do so can eventually result in burnout and chronic fatigue. The stressed individual may feel like they are constantly running from one emergency to another and thus fail to take the time to rest and recuperate. Constant fatigue is often a sign that someone is overwhelmed and experiencing stress.
5. Addictive/excessive behaviour

Those experiencing stress often don’t realise that it is stress which they are experiencing. Where they do realise this, they often have no idea how to deal with stress. This can result in short term solutions which, though they have a temporary impact, have damaging long-term consequences. One of the most common coping mechanisms for dealing with difficulty is alcohol. While alcohol can have temporary benefit, it can be highly addictive and it fails to resolve the situation. Other coping mechanisms include smoking, illegal and prescription drugs, gambling, porn, sex, etc.
6. Unhealthy eating habits

Comfort food is often sought as a solution to stressful situations. Indulging in convenience foods can make you feel better temporarily and saves time, however, these foods are rich in salt, sugar and fat which can lead to obesity, high blood pressure and heart related illnesses.

While we associate comfort eating with stress, some people have the opposite response to stressful situation i.e. they avoid eating. They may be experiencing a suppressed appetite, they may have developed a negative self image or they may have developed negative associations with food. Whatever the reason, the consequences of food avoidance can be every bit as devastating as the consequences of food indulgence.
7. Risk-taking behaviour

A sudden development of risk taking behaviour can be a clear sign of stress. Individuals may be experiencing a low sense of self-worth or a lack of excitement in their lives. They need a ‘buzz’ in their life and are willing to take bigger risks in order to get that buzz. Unfortunately, they level of risk they need to take to get the ‘buzz’ may increase steadily over time. They fail to see that as the risk gets bigger, so too do the potential consequences. Gambling is a common behavioural symptom of stress, which falls within this category. Certain extreme sports and reckless driving are some of the other symptoms of stress which may fall under risk-taking behaviour.
8. Accidents

Concentration tends to suffer greatly when one experiences stress. In certain work places (generally more manual industries) this may result in a high number of accidents both fatal and non-fatal. Along with reduced concentration, the individual may also be overworked, poorly trained, displaying risk-taking behaviour or denied sufficient rest periods; all of which may be contributory factors in the stress.
9. Suicidal talk or behaviour

Stress can diminish an individual’s self-esteem and sense of self-worth to the point where they feel that they cannot go on. In many such cases we do not get the opportunity to help the individual but in some cases they do drop subtle hints of their intentions. There are courses, such as ASIST, which can help to improve your chances of spotting these signs and intervening.

how your behavior changes your brain and vice versa

Infants are born with far more synapses than they will need as adults.

Neural network pathways that are active while learning language, music, reading, writing, and playing sports, among other skills, are biologically reinforced by modifying synapses. Unused synapses are cannibalized to save precious metabolic energy. Psychological development literally, physically, sculpts the brain in addition to modifying synapses and thereby changes biology!

Psychology normally changes our synapses by activating internal experience-dependent plasticity mechanisms.

Our brains physically specialize as we develop psychologically. This explains why it is more difficult for older people to learn a new language.

*

Our neural network understanding of how psychology changes biology prepares us to understand how biology modifies psychology.

Understanding that the synapses that connect neurons contain our memories of who we are, the people that we know, the experiences we have had, and our attitudes about everyone and everything along with how we feel enables us to see that directly modifying them with legal or illegal psychoactive substances will change our psychology.

Drugs directly modify synapses pharmacologically and consequently alters our psychology.

Pharmacological psychiatry is a relatively young field. The clinical practice of selecting the right medication to make therapeutic synaptic modifications is, by and large, a trial and error business. It can take several weeks for therapeutic effects to be noticed. Therapeutic effects are often dose dependent which means that dosage may need to be systematically increased.

*

Neural network models enable us to see how psychology changes biology because the memory formation process that drives learning and all psychological development modifies synapses through experience-dependent plasticity neuroscience mechanisms.

This knowledge enables to understand that modifying synapses pharmacologically will also change our psychology. The causal role of synapses in learning and memory make them the missing link in psychobiology and biopsychology.

Psychology will organize around the synapse when it becomes a mature natural science just as biology organized around the cell when it became a mature natural science.

12 Motorcycles That Trace the Evolution of the All-American Chopper

World News - Breaking International News Headlines and Leaks

The art critic Robert Hughes called the custom motorcycle a distinctive form of American folk art, but “I would go further,” Paul d’Orléans writes in the introduction to The Chopper: The Real Story.

He calls the Chopper “the ultimate American folk art movement, a culturally explosive mashup of particularly American traits; the cowboy/outlaw,

free of family, property, or history, free to explore endless highways, free to express one’s individuality through dress and choice of transport.”

Distinguished by its extended forks, lack of rear suspension, and tall sissybar, the Chopper was preceded by styles like the bob-job

and cut-down, and grew out of efforts to make Harley-Davidsons and other bikes lighter, faster, and more agile.

But in d’Orléans’ telling, it was more than a question of mechanics. It was the culmination of decades of motorcycle culture, spurred on

by American societal shifts brought on by World War 2, changing race…

Let us sing today the hymn of life. Yesterday I heard it from the earth itself, as I came, through the darkening day, to this faithful town. Up toward those tattered clouds stretched a single pine tree, defying the storm, raising its crown to the sky. The sun broke suddenly over a clearing, and there, by that sudden flash of light, I saw arising from the yellowed grass, from among the blackened trunks of the fallen, the joyful shoots of the new pines

The professor, frowning, says “Well? You’re late…”

The students respond “We are so sorry professor, we had a flat tire on our way here and by the time we changed it and resumed our trip, we weren’t going to make it on time. Could you find it in your heart to give us a chance to take the final on another day?”

After pausing for what seemed to be an eternity, the professor’s frown melted away, and a smile crept across his face.

“You shall have your chance. Come to the exam hall in 3 days.”

The students thanked him and left the hall, in triumph.

3 days pass and the students arrive at the exam hall to find the professor waiting with that same smile, holding an envelope. He seats each student at one corner of the large hall and gives them the exam papers, face down.

“You have all been through quite an ordeal. As such, your exam is short and simple. In fact it’s only one question. You have 1 hour. Naturally, no talking. You may begin.”

The students flip their exam papers over and read the question in terror:

“You said you had a flat tire… which tire was it?”

it is my determination to not contribute one iota, out of blind love for an idea into which I am expending my life, to bring to my land a regime of personal despotism, …

130 years ago, in what amounts to a resignation letter, José Martí chides the boss of Cuban army Máximo Gómez for wanting to found the new nation “as one commands a military camp,” even as he regrets the need to chastise the general:

— What a shame to have to say these things to a man whom I believe to be sincere and good, and in whom reside the notable qualities to achieve true greatness! —But there is something above all the personal sympathies that you may inspire in me . . . and it is my determination to not contribute one iota, out of blind love for an idea into which I am expending my life, to bring to my land a regime of personal despotism, …

Over the past 63 years, Martí’s land has been ruled by such regime. Cuba needs to be free from any personal or foreign power but for the will of ALL Cubans. The ones that fight for it, are also Cubans no matter where they born. The result of their effort will be the only real Free Cuba.

Martí’s dream of a real Free Cuba is yet to come.

Let’s do it!

I wish school would teach values and ethics and morality

From a reader:

Thanks for the post. I absolutely hated going to school. First and foremost is that I have a learning disability that I never knew I had and parents that felt it was the school’s job to teach me. Second I never felt that any of the information was relevant. It is only now that I’m my thirtys that I have a desire to learn some of these things. lol. But just out of curiosity and not for me to prove myself on some meaningless test. I wish school would teach values and ethics and morality. I wish it would prepare you for the future and not just you need to know this so that we can teach you this next year and blah blah blah .. there goes 13 years of your life down the tube. almost 20 if you go to a 4 year college. I do agree that everyone person should be literate. But beyond that I think should be entirely up to the person. What do you need a college education for in a company that has you fill out forms or interact with people?

People who succeed seemed to be people who are innovative or have a drive to go to the top with nothing stopping them (lying, cheating, stealing too). Nothing honestly in my life has prepared me for life.

“Patients think that they can ‘sweat it out’ at the gym, but when the body is fighting infection, it needs rest, not exercise,” says Dr. Neides. “And when we exercise, we raise our body temperatures, and plenty of the cold and flu organisms replicate at a faster rate when the body gets hotter.”

It was said that our body answer to infection is best at corporal temperature around 38 c / 100.5 F but now…

During exercise, the body also releases stress hormones, including cortisol, which can negatively affect the function of the white blood cells that help with immunity, he says. And that’s why going to work is a bad idea. “People who are under a tremendous amount of stress can’t attack the disease as well.

Dr. Neides doesn’t suggest patients with a bad cold or flu lie prone all day. Rather, he wants them to be as still as possible in a comfortable position. “One of the many reasons we recommend ‘bed rest’ is because when you’re lying down, the blood flow doesn’t have to work against gravity,” he adds. “But any position where you are calm and inactive is fine.”

That could mean reclining in an overstuffed chair, and not necessarily the actual bed, he adds. Sitting upright, though, can make dehydrated flu-sufferers dizzy or lightheaded, and can result in nausea, feeling worse or even falling over.

“If you have a fever, you are perspiring and giving off energy. That makes it easier to get dehydrated,” he says.

Down Time
Doctors typically recommend flu patients on bed rest increase activity from nothing to some as the body tolerates it, says Dr. Neides. Once a fever has subsided and a person doesn’t feel lightheaded or dizzy when standing, a little activity can be added gradually.

“One thing I tell patients is, for every one day you’re down with an infection, it takes three days to recover,” Dr. Neides adds. “So if you’re out of commission for two weeks, it will take six weeks to truly get back to your baseline level of energy.”

Ways to get back to health include minimizing exposure, staying nutritionally well-balanced and hydrated, and not exacerbating the illness by attempting to maintain normal activity. All that leads back to staying home and doing very little.

“Whatever the organism is—bacterial, viral—it does demand energy from your body,” says Dr. Neides. “Bed rest can mean a range of things, but what we really want is for you to rest and to stay away from other people. It’s a public health issue. When I tell you ‘no exposure,’ I mean it.”

Special Cases
There are rare instances when a bed-rest recommendation means actually staying in bed all day. “If a doctor is concerned about preterm labor, bed rest means you cannot stand up more than several minutes every hour because the risk of inducing contractions would increase,” says the family medicine practitioner.

“Another example of prone bed rest would be after retinal-detachment surgery, when a gas bubble is injected into the back of the eye, like a pressure bandage. You have to be face down for about three weeks and you can stand maybe five minutes every two to three hours.”

Only One Sale, so you are fired!!!

His first day on the job was rough, but he got through it. After the store was locked up, the boss came down to the sales floor.
“How many customers bought something from you today?” The kid frowns and looks at the floor and mutters, “One”. The boss says “Just one?!!? Our sales people average sales to 20 to 30 customers a day.

That will have to change, and soon, if you’d like to continue your employment here. We have very strict standards for our sales force here in USA . One sale a day might have been acceptable in India , but you’re not in the mines anymore, son.”

The kid took his beating, but continued to look at his shoes, so the boss felt kinda bad for chewing him out on his first day. He asked (semi-sarcastic ally), “So, how much was your one sale for?”

The kid looks up at his boss and says “$101,237.65″.
The boss, astonished, says $101,237.65?!? What the heck did you sell?”

The kid says, “Well, first, I sold him some new fish hooks. Then I sold him a new fishing rod to go with his new hooks. Then I asked him where he was going fishing and he said down the coast, so I told him he was going to need a boat, so we went down to the boat department and I sold him a twin engine Chris Craft. Then he said he didn’t think his Honda Civic would pull it, so I took him down to the automotive department and sold him that 4×4 Expedition.”

The boss said “A guy came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a boat and a TRUCK!?” The kid said “No, the guy came in here to buy tampons for his wife, and I said, ‘Dude, your weekend’s fucked, perhaps you should go fishing.

not only free information but free food for all

Manama: Saudi and Gulf citizens have heaped praise on a man who placed a refrigerator in front of his house in the northern Saudi city of Hail and invited people to donate food to help the needy.
The open air donation would spare the needy the “shame” of asking for food, the man, who was not named, said.
The move came to national and international attention after a religious scholar, Shaikh Mohammad Al Araifi, paid tribute on his Twitter account to “the Saudi man from Hail who was engaged in an indirect act of charity.”
Writing under the moniker of “Sniper”, an online user applauded the “simple, but far-reaching idea.”
“That is exactly what we needed: A simple, but bright idea that goes a long way in helping people,” Sniper posted. “The idea should now be adopted and all large mosques in the country should place fridges to take and distribute food,” he said.
Another blogger, Abdul Rahman, went further by suggesting “the smart idea should be applied in front of all houses.”
“It is the best way to ensure that all people have access to food,” he said.

24-year-old JOB INTERVIEW

[O]ne day there came to see me a 24-year-old–man, come from [Mexico] seeking a faculty position. His demeanor was very proper, his appearance pleasant, and his manner of expression easy and agreeable. I liked him.

I asked him to tell me who he was and what skills he had for the classroom, to which he responded:

—“I am Cuban, I’ve come from Mexico, and my name is ]osé Martí. My teaching skills . . .

—“José Martí! I interrupted. “That name is not unknown to me: I’ve seen it as that of the author of a pamphlet that speaks of the torments that the Spanish government inflicts upon the poor Cubans it sends to the work camps in Africa. Perhaps . . .”

—“Yes sir, I am the author of that pamphlet and the martyr to which it refers.”

—“Well then, Mr. Martí, your twofold worthiness as a Cuban and martyr make you completely worthy of my sympathies: You may count on the position you seek.

the article on prisoners in Habana was written 6 years before in Spain, by 18 years old Pepe. 6 years he has spent in recovering from physical illness (sarcoidosis) and lifting his family from the poverty that has killed 3 of his 7 sisters. Now, 1977, Pepe is in Guatemala, Central American Country, for the dictator Diaz expelled him from Mexico in past December, as the Spaniard metropoly did from Cuba a month before. It’s April.

Where there is no real cultivation of proper desire, who stands to gain, really?

What is the first law of teaching, and the last? I think it is that you have to try to make them want what you’re trying to give them. There are many other things, specially when it come to actually giving what you give, but at the moment I think this is the one that draws the line between a good and a bad teacher. The teacher that made me want the thing, was good, the one that failed was not destined to succeed at teaching much. And I think that if you don’t realize this, you are bound to be bad as a teacher. A student who doesn’t need you to do that, who wants it already, will learn from you, and you can stick around in some disciplines and subjects. And bad teachers take it for granted that that’s the student’s responsibility, because who can reach into anothers heart? And they’re partly right, but no enought. I think you’re on the way to being far more successful of a teacher if you know you have to try to make them want what you’re trying to give them.

Of course there are the ethics of it, which makes me think of advertising–though perhaps that’s too much of a mix. Advertising is like evangelicalism, opportunistic about its means. It knows you have to want whatever you’re going to get, and it goes about it in the quickest way. But a teacher cannot be opportunistic. Opportunism is not wisdom, and at least teaching ought to be on the side of wisdom. Opportunism is a kind of insight about means, but without the corresponding insight of the ends. And there are ways of wanting, some of which get at the thing, some of which handle it a little while and then lose the grip of true lasting interest. Some ways of wanting are only about the subject that wants, and do not nourish in that subject a desire that corresponds to the object, but only a transitory and desultory wanting that is continually vitiated, and requires endless change or deeper perversion.

we’ve heard too much on suicidal Martí, so let’s talk about the non-suicidal one

It is distressing to feel oneself so alive and full of tenderness and of undying kindness and to sob for hours on end,

—without my soul allowing me the right to release moans,

in this tepid atmosphere,

in this unbearable smallness,

in this monotonous sameness,

in this measured life,

in this emptiness of love that weighs upon my body, that overwhelms it, and that perennially suffocates and oppresses me within it.

Sickness of living: the sickness that killed Acuña*.

Rosario, awaken me, not as you did him, pardonable for his highness of soul, yet in the end weak and unworthy of me.

Because to live is a burden, so I live;

because to live is to suffer, so I live:

—I live, because I would be stronger than every obstacle and every force.

Letter sent by José Martí to a mexican poet for whom the poet *Acuña is believed commited suicide.

13 FAMILY BLOODLINES OF THE SECRET SOCIETY (ILLUMINATI)

Arlin Report

  1. The Illuminati (plural of Latin illuminatus, “enlightened”) is a name given to several groups, both real and fictitious. Historically, the name refers to the Bavarian Illuminati, an Enlightenment-era secret society founded on May 1, 1776.

2.  The Illuminati conspiracy is a conspiracy theory which holds that           there is a “global elite” society that is either in control of the                   world or is seeking to take control of the world.

As with most conspiracy theories, beliefs regarding the Illuminati conspiracy vary widely.   One theory that they are a Satanic organization.

Here is a list of 13 family bloodline of the Illuminati from the founding in 1776.   Some of these families can be traced as far back as the 1600s.   Some are quite familiar to us here in the U.S.; particularly families like Kennedy…

It’s the economic war, stupid!

Caracas Chronicles

Ever since scarcity began, Venezuelans were presented with a new phenomenon: “economic war.” Hazily defined and poorly communicated, economic war basically says that someone – the opposition, private industry, the CIA, the Mossad, Uribe – SOMEONE is responsible for the long lines and empty shelves in Venezuela’s stores. That someone is … anyone but the government.

The latest incarnation of “economic war” points to “wholesalers.” According to the government, wholesalers are hoarding on consumer goods. The reason you can’t find cooking oil is becasue it’s stored in the warehouses of eeeeeeevillllll wholesalers. Once we do away with these folks, everything will be good.

Sadly, some in the media aren’t buying the “economic war” narrative. The latest media outlet to undermine the argument is none other than the Official Gazette of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Last week, a decree was published there saying the government was…
